Miss Tulsa’s Outstanding Teen

Ashten spent her Saturday at the Miss Tulsa’s Outstanding Teen Pageant!  She enjoyed spending time with the contestants, writing encouraging letters to our soldiers and hanging out with her MOOT Sister, Julianne Thomison!

Miss OCU’s Outstanding Teen

Every contestant dreams of what they would do with the Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen title if they were to ever win. My dream was to start a volunteer based project for all of the Outstanding Teen contestants on a local level. At each pageant I would set up some kind of volunteering activity for the girls to participate in then after all local contestants were crowned there would be a project with the entire “MOOT class.” After I was blessed with this title, my project was the first thing I wanted to put into motion. I named it “Crowns with a Cause.” Not only do our contestants have shiny crowns to wear on their heads, they have shining hearts to help those around them. My platform is personally volunteerism and serving others, but everyone can find some way and reason to give back to those around them.

My first project for “Crowns with a Cause” was today. The contestants in the Miss OCU pageant wrote letters to the 300 plus soldiers defending our country in Afghanistan. They had a lot of fun doing it and I know the letters will make a difference. The soldiers will receive these letters before Independence Day.

The girls were so enthusiastic to serve and it warms my heart to see the difference a group of young girls can make. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible today: the OCU Board, the MOOT board and my lovely Mommy who inspired me to make this crazy idea I had known. Thank you all so very much!
