Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen 2006

Tulsa teenager Molly Colvard’s summer has been anything but typical. The whirlwind started on the evening of June 9th when Colvard was crowned Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen 2006 and earned over $2400 in cash scholarships as well as a tuition waiver to Oklahoma City University valued at $9000. An accomplished local performer, Colvard wowed the Mabee Center audience with “The Voice Within”. She competed at Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen as Miss Teen Oklahoma City University, a school known for its winning pageant history. Since winning the state title, Colvard has entertained at several events and has worked with various groups of children regarding her critical issue, “Stand Up, Speak Out: Preventing Bullying.”

Colvard has also been busily preparing for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant to be held August 15-19 in Orlando , Florida . The teen pageant is endorsed by and affiliated with the Miss America Organization and continues the Organization’s strong tradition by providing scholarships and performance opportunities to accomplished 13 to 17-year-olds from across the nation. From photo shoots to public speaking opportunities, from wardrobe fittings to vocal lessons, the summer has been anything but a boring for this talented young lady. “Representing Oklahoma at the national pageant is the opportunity of a lifetime. Even though there’s a lot to do to prepare, I am enjoying it and am giving it my all every day so I can do my best in Orlando,” said Colvard in a recent interview.

The daughter of Dennis and Betsye Colvard, the 17-year-old will begin her senior year at Bishop Kelly High School this fall. A member of the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, she holds a 3.95 GPA and was nominated to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and received the Untied States Achievement Academy Award for Outstanding Work in Mathematics. Colvard is a ropes course facilitator, math tutor, and Salvation Army volunteer. She was named Urban Tulsa Weekly‘s “Tulsa’s Absolute Best” Female Vocalist of the Year and was the youngest person on their “Tulsa’s Top 100 Movers and Shakers” list. Colvard has also been nominated for the Tulsa World‘s SPOT Award for Best Blues Performer.

The Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen Pageant is held in conjunction with the Miss Oklahoma Pageant each June at the ORU Mabee Center and features talented contestants from across the state.
